Understanding your compatibility score
200+
For a successful long-term relationship, aim for a Compatibility Score of at least 200 points. However, love is complex, and there's more to consider beyond just the numbers.
Important factors to consider
Emotional cement
This is a crucial factor that binds couples together through shared experiences:
- Positive bonds: common school memories, travel experiences, interests, or languages.
- Strong negative experiences (unless overwhelming): similar life challenges like family difficulties or personal hardships.
If you have strong emotional cement, add 100 points to your Compatibility Score!
Common goals and values
Having shared goals beyond self-interest can strengthen relationships, even with lower compatibility scores. However, conflicting core values ('deal-breakers') can challenge even high-scoring couples unless resolved through communication and adaptation.
Important notes

- Romantic compatibility research is still developing, with limited mainstream institutional focus. Read our science page to better understand how our algorithm – and relationships – work.
- Relationships are dynamic – compatibility can change over time as people grow together or apart.
- While long-term relationships aren't everyone's goal, good compatibility scores matter even for shorter relationships.
- More research is needed for understanding compatibility scores in polyamorous relationships.
